Emergency Alerts Test – Helping You Prepare for Sunday 7 September 2025 at 3pm
The UK Government will send a test emergency alert to mobile phones across the UK at around 3 pm on 7 September 2025.
At 3pm on Sunday 7 September, the UK Government will be running a nationwide test of the Emergency Alerts system.
This system is designed to warn people about life-threatening emergencies such as severe flooding, wildfires, and extreme weather.
What you can expect
- Your phone or tablet may emit a loud siren, vibrate, and read out a message.
- This will happen even if your device is on silent.
- The alert will last for around 10 seconds and will include a link or number for further information.
Preparing for the test
- The sound can be startling, so it may help to remind yourself that this is only a test.
- If you live with or care for someone who may be more vulnerable, you might want to let them know in advance.
- If you are affected by domestic abuse and have a second or hidden phone, turn it off before the test. You can also opt out of receiving alerts altogether: www.gov.uk/alerts/opting-out.

If you are driving
- Do not check your phone when the alert sounds.
- Stop safely and legally if you need to, or listen to live radio for updates.
