    Healthwatch Warrington are working with Warrington CCG and the Primary Care Networks to explain and obtain feedback on the future changes to GP alignment for Primary Care Networks (PCNs) in Warrington Care Homes.

    With the global pandemic taking the world from normality to lockdown, we wanted to use this time to assess how changes to society and lockdown had impacted residents of Warrington in regards to their wellbeing and how they access health & social care services.

    Healthwatch Warrington undertook a survey of access to GP services for the residents of Burtonwood, a village on the borders of Warrington and St Helens. They undertook a survey of local residents and received 183 responses.

    Healthwatch Warrington undertook research into maternity services and the experiences of women from Warrington who have recently given birth. The project looked at the information and support that women were given before and after the births of their babies. They did a survey to which they had 40 responses and collected 5 detailed case studies.

    Healthwatch Warrington undertook research into the support available for children and young people around mental health and well-being. This was chosen because in Warrington the THRIVE model for young people’s mental health and well-being support was introduced in 2016 and we wanted to review how young people had experienced the access to services. In total they spoke to 119 young people.

    Warrington Borough Council have awarded the new Healthwatch Warrington contract to Engaging Communities Solutions Community Interest Company. This means ECS (Engaging Communities Solutions) can continue to deliver the contract which they have held since August 2018 and maintain the high level of support offered to local residents throughout the borough. The contract will include Healthwatch services and also the NHS Complaints Advocacy service contract.

    There is a worrying rise in whooping cough, officials warn, external, with 553 cases in England recorded in January alone and high numbers in Wales. The best way to prevent whooping cough is to get vaccinated. In the UK the vaccine is only offered to children.
