Healthwatch Warrington surveyed over 150 residents between October 2024 and March 2025 to understand how people access GP services and how recent NHS reforms are impacting care.

GP Access in Warrington: Residents Share Their Experiences

Key Findings:

  • Access Challenges: 68% of patients used the phone to contact their GP, but many faced long waits, dropped calls, or no available appointments.
  • Digital Barriers: Online systems like eConsult were often full or confusing, especially for older or vulnerable patients.
  • Vulnerable Groups: Carers, people with disabilities, and those with long-term conditions reported mixed experiences—positive when supported, but often facing access issues.
  • Alternative Routes: Half of respondents tried self-care or pharmacies before contacting their GP, but many still needed GP input.
  • Positive Care Experiences: Once seen, 89% were satisfied with how their appointment was delivered, and 88% felt they saw the right professional.

What’s Next:
The findings will inform improvements across Cheshire and Merseyside. Healthwatch will continue gathering feedback and working with NHS partners to ensure patient voices shape future services.
